China's ultra-high wind farm in the Xizang Autonomous Region has been connected to the power grid at full capacity, its project developer, the China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), said on Wednesday.

Located in Zhegu Town, Comai County, the wind farm's turbines were installed at altitudes ranging from 5,000 to 5,200 meters above sea level.

In wind projects, a plant built at an altitude of 3,500 to 5,500 meters is considered ultra-high, according to CTG.

The total installed capacity of the wind farm hits 72.6 megawatts (MW) with 25 wind turbines.

The wind farm uses turbines with a single-unit capacity of over three MW to increase energy output, of which the largest capacity reaches 3.6 MW.

The farm will generate over 200 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, meeting the electricity consumption needs of some 140,000 households for a year, according to the CTG.

As the largest wind farm established at an ultra-high altitude in China, it can improve the utilization efficiency of local wind resources, the developer said.
