Former U.S. President Donald Trump said he would accept a short-term role as speaker of the House of Representatives to serve as a "unifier" for the Republican Party until lawmakers reach a decision on the speakership nominee, as he told Fox News.
Trump stressed that he would take the speakership for a short "30, 60, or 90-day period" if Republicans cannot come to a consensus.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise have announced bids to run for speaker after Steve McCarthy's ouster.
