The Israel Defense Forces' top spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, said that Hamas has taken Israelis as hostages to the Gaza Strip, according to a Times of Israel report on Saturday.
In a briefing with reporters, Hagari said Israeli soldiers have also been killed in the fighting.
No numbers were given on the number of hostages taken or soldiers killed.
