China saw a travel and consumption frenzy during the eight-day Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday. During the travel rush from September 27 to October 6, over 160 million passenger trips were made via the country's railway network, as reported by the Chinese Ministry of Transport. A record-breaking figure of 20.09 million railway passenger trips was observed on September 29. Data from a tourism platform shows that during the holiday week, outbound travel orders increased by more than eight times year-on-year.
CGTN Stringer talks to some travelers in Hong Kong and Shanghai about their travel plans for the National Day holidays, dream destinations and views on travel expenses. Some travelers say that they prefer outbound travel or niche destinations for longer vacations. Compared with the popular budget travel or "special-forces-style" travel in the past, more people are willing to upgrade tourism services and relax during their journey.
