Diplomats hail Mombasa-Nairobi railway as green, open, cooperative road
01:17

The Chinese-built Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has been a catalyst for transformation in Kenya since its launch six years ago, a group of foreign envoys based in Kenya have said. A delegation of diplomats from 15 countries and international organizations embarked on a journey along the railway to witness the progress brought about by Kenya's first modern railway. Stretching across 480 kilometers and connecting East Africa's largest port in Mombasa to Kenya's capital city of Nairobi, the railway reduced travel time between the two cities by nearly half. As a major project of the Belt and Road Initiative, the railway represents the successful integration of the initiative with Kenya's Vision 2030 national development plan.
