Powerful earthquakes in Afghanistan killed 500 people, Reuters reported on Sunday, citing Red Crescent spokesperson Erfanullah Sharafzoi on Sunday.
Several strong quakes hit 35 kilometers northwest of the city of Herat on Saturday, with one measuring magnitude 6.3, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
According to AFP news agency, the death toll from quakes rose to "more than 1,000," citing government spokesperson Bilal Karimi.
