Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged for stabilizing and improving China-U.S. ties to benefit both countries as well as the world on Monday during a meeting with a U.S. congressional delegation led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in Beijing.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China and the U.S. should respect each other's development paths chosen by the respective peoples, and respect each other's core interests and development rights.

He welcomed the delegation's visit to China, expressing hope that the senators will understand China more accurately and view it more objectively, and play a constructive role for turning China-U.S. ties back to a healthy development path.

With different social systems, histories and cultures, and stages of development, China can't become the U.S., nor can the U.S. become China, he noted.

He pointed out the importance of stable China-U.S. relations and urged both sides to play their role in response to global conflicts and challenges.

Schumer and the delegation said the U.S. is willing to strengthen engagement and dialogue with China, manage differences in a responsible way and avoid conflicts.

The U.S. is not decoupling with China, they said, adding that they hope to continue bilateral talks which are beneficial.
