Chinese coast guards encountered a school of dolphins cruising with their ship in waters near the Sanya Bay in China's southernmost Hainan Province last Friday.
At about 3 p.m., when the law enforcement officers from the Sanya Coast Guard Bureau were carrying out regular patrol missions, they found over 100 dolphins by the sides of their ship. The dolphins were diving and chasing each other, creating a spectacular scene.
The coast guard vessel "Qianzhou" then lowered its speed and escorted the dolphins to safe areas.
Most dolphin species live in warm tropical waters and have high requirements for water quality.
In recent years, the Sanya Coast Guard Bureau has cooperated with multiple departments to crack down on illegal hunting of dolphins and strengthen marine management to provide a good habitat for the species.
