The death toll from earthquakes in western Afghanistan's Herat and neighboring provinces has risen to 2,445, Herat authorities said on Sunday night.
The most affected area is the Zenda Jan area of Herat, where 13 villages have been "utterly destroyed," said Mawlawi Musa Ashari, Herat's provincial director for the National Disaster Management Authority.
CGTN Stringer visited the earthquake's epicenter and captured the latest disaster relief efforts. The quake has left many residents homeless and displaced. Survivors wailed while struggling to pull their buried loved ones from the ruins.
