Over 1,100 people have been killed in the escalation of tensions and violence in Palestine and Israel that began on Saturday morning. 

The death toll from Hamas' surprise attack on Israel has reached over 700 while Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have killed 413 people including 78 children and 41 women, according to the latest data from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the health ministry in Gaza.

The IDF added that 2,150 Israelis had been wounded in the attacks while Gaza authority said 2,300 people were treated at hospitals. 

Among the Israeli victims, more than 250 bodies were found at the site of Israeli Supernova festival, Israeli media reported citing rescuers. 

On October 7, Hamas, which controls Gaza, launched a surprise attack on Israeli towns adjacent to the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later announced that Israel was "in a state of war" and initiated massive airstrikes on Gaza.

According to the Palestinian media, 130 Israelis including IDF officials were being held captive in Gaza as conflict continues into Monday.  

The IDF also said the Israeli Navy's elite Shayetet 13 commando unit had taken into custody senior Hamas member Abu Ghali.
