Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao on Monday met with the bipartisan delegation of the U.S. Senate led by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in Beijing.

The two sides held "rational and pragmatic" discussions on China-U.S. economic and trade relations and such issues of common concern, according to a statement released by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

Wang said that the economic and trade ties between China and the U.S. not only matter to the two countries, but also have a global influence.

China does not avoid competition, but that should be fair and based on international rules, Wang said, calling for the U.S. to accurately define the boundaries of security and avoid politicizing and generalizing security issues.

China is willing to work with the U.S. to create a favorable business climate for the business sectors for both countries, Wang said, in an effort to promote bilateral trade and investment.

Schumer said that both parties of the U.S. Congress attach the importance of trade ties with China, and they do not seek de-coupling with China and would like to strengthen communication and exchanges with China.
