A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday said that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have become the biggest destroyer of the peaceful life of residents of China's Taiwan region.

The DPP authorities and "Taiwan independence" forces have become not only the troublemaker in the peace and stability of the region across the Taiwan Straits, but also the biggest destroyer of the peaceful and tranquil life of Taiwan residents, said Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

Chen made the comments in response to a recent poll conducted in the Taiwan region that showed an increasing number of locals worried about a continued "ruling" of the DPP.

"The results of this poll show that more and more Taiwan residents realize that 'Taiwan independence' means war," he told a regular press briefing in Beijing.

The spokesperson also rejected the remarks of Lai Ching-te, the DPP candidate for the 2024 regional election.

"Peace, development, communication and cooperation are the common aspirations of compatriots across the Taiwan Straits," said Chen.

The spokesperson also expressed appreciation of the support of the one-China principle by Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The one-China principle is a universal consensus of the international community, said Chen.

"We express our appreciation for the international community's understanding and support for the Chinese people's just cause of opposing 'Taiwan independence' and striving for national reunification," he said.
