Artist Kang Xiukui has used wheat straw to create more than 500 paintings in the city of Linfen in northern China's Shanxi Province. Wheat straw painting is a traditional art form in China dating back to the Sui Dynasty(581—618). Creating the artwork involves about 30 steps, from steaming, dyeing and ironing the wheat straw to cutting, carving and pasting it.
