The Qionglai Mountains lies on the western edge of the Sichuan Basin. Massifs measuring 6,250 meters in height obstruct the monsoon heading west and so retain abundant precipitation and tumbling clouds. Stretching from 1,200 to 3,400 meters, the mixed forests are homes to diverse lifeforms.
Giant pandas were first discovered in the southern Qionglai Mountains in China. Now, more than 500 wild pandas live in the mountains. The Chinese monal, dubbed "the giant panda in birds" due to its extremely low population, also calls this place home. The birds can be easily recognized by the rainbow-like plumage in males.
From October 12 to 23, CGTN Nature presents "Journeys in Nature: Qionglai Mountains Series," taking you on a trip to uncover the mysteries of this dense forest in the Qionglai Mountains. Stay tuned!
