China has developed a higher-yielding cotton variety, with better quality and more resistance to pests. The China Cotton Association says growing this new cotton requires less human interference and use of pesticide. This enables the crop to maintain a naturally soft texture and better breathability. Under upgraded standards, cotton growing should minimize its impact on water resources, soil and biodiversity, while reducing carbon emissions. Many experimental fields have been established across Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the leading producer of cotton in China.
