Lord Adair Turner, Chair of the Energy Transitions Commission sat down with CGTN anchor Guan Xin for an interview on the global economic situation and green agenda.
Lord Turner, also a former chairman of the UK's Financial Services Authority from 2008 to 2013, discussed how the financial system had weathered the pandemic relatively well compared to 2008, thanks to reforms made after the financial crisis, although he added that some individual banks still faced problems.
On climate change governance, Lord Turner said the COP summits should tighten their ambitions and implementation. He called for clearer commitments to accelerate renewable energy installation and begin phasing out all fossil fuels.
He warned against full tech decoupling from China, adding that although re-balancing of supply chains was understandable, opportunities existed for win-win cooperation on technologies like AI and batteries. The key was avoiding zero-sum competition mindsets, he said.
