A glimpse of the Taiyuan Tianlongshan Grottoes in N. China

The Tianlongshan Grottoes sit in Taiyuan, capital of northern China's Shanxi Province. The carving of the grottoes began during the Eastern Wei Dynasty about 1,500 years ago and lasted until the Tang Dynasty. The site comprises of 25 caves and more than 500 stone Buddha sculptures. Sculptures from the Tang Dynasty are recognized as the pinnacle of Chinese grotto art, especially those in Cave 9, which are the most famous.
