CPEC 10 years on: eliminating power shortages in Pakistan & extending 2nd phase to 5 new areas

Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), power shortages in Pakistan have been eliminated, making the country self-sufficient in power generation. This initiative has also attracted investment in renewable energy, specifically solar and wind energy, creating a well-balanced energy portfolio. Ahsan Iqbal, former Federal Minister for Planning & Development of Pakistan, has confirmed these advancements and said the next challenge for Pakistan is to transition from fossil fuel dependence to solar energy. Recently, the vice premier of China's state council visited Pakistan and proposed an extension of the CPEC by establishing five new corridors of cooperation, focusing on agriculture, livelihood, innovation, green economy and regional development. By developing these networks, Pakistan has the potential to create a vast economic zone in the future comprising of more than 3 billion people.
