Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned violence against civilians on Thursday in the wake of the devastating attack by Hamas gunmen on Israel and the relentless bombardment of the Gaza Strip by Israeli jets that followed.

During his meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah II the same day in Jordan's capital Amman, Abbas called for "an immediate end to the all-out aggression against the Palestinian people and the need to provide humanitarian medical and relief aid, water and electricity and open urgent humanitarian corridors in the Gaza Strip," the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Jordan's King Abdullah on Thursday ordered the government to allocate 3 million dinars ($4.23 million) for a UN body working with Palestinian refugees, according to the Jordanian state news agency Petra.
