Mount Kangrinboqe is located in Burang County of Ngari prefecture, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region. With an elevation of over 6,600 meters, it is considered a "sacred mountain" by local people because of religious beliefs. The area of Mount Kangrinboqe is characterized by faulted metasedimentary rocks. The rocks prove the massive geological movement for thousands of years ago in the plateau. Because of these rocks, Mount Kangrinboqe is believed to have been uplifted by the tectonic movements during the Cenozoic era.
