The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos 19-8 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday night, extending their winning streak to five games.
The Chiefs' quarterback (QB) Patrick Mahomes completed 30 of his 40 passes to produce 306 yards and one touchdown with one interception. Tight end Travis Kelce was targeted nine times and didn't miss any of them for 124 yards, including a 40-yard deep connection. Mahomes rushed for 31 yards with six carries himself, matching running back Isiah Pacheco for the longest run at 15 yards.
However, the excellent offensive numbers didn't translate into a dominant enough game for the Chiefs. 12 of their 19 points were scored via field goals Harrison Butker, who made his first 60-yard shot this season in the second quarter. The only touchdown the team scored was a connection between Mahomes and wide receiver Kadarius Toney over a three-yard toss in the second quarter.

It's true that the Chiefs built their lead, slowly but surely, from three to 16 points all the way to the fourth quarter, they could have done better and turned this game into a four-gone conclusion much sooner, so they wouldn't have to go through the tension in the final period. The team seemed distracted by the idea of implementing tricks on too many offensive plays and were not focused enough on getting solid lead to finish the competition.
"Our defense was incredible tonight, as it has been," the Chiefs' head coach Andy Reid said. "But we have to take care of business in the red zone. We had a lot of yards, positive yards, but you can't stall down there."
Of course, the Chiefs still won despite all of the breathing spells they allowed the Broncos. After another disastrous night of QB Russell Wilson, who didn't even reach 100 passing yards (95), but threw two interceptions, the Broncos suffered their fifth loss of the season. Their 1-5 record is already the worst in the American Football Conference.

Nonetheless, Wilson shouldn't take the blame because many of the plays he called were planned by the offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, who didn't seem to have a clear knowledge of what Wilson's style of play has been. While the Broncos' offensive line couldn't protect their QB from being sacked times, the team only designed four rushing plays for him.
"They did a lot of different things," Wilson said. "The first [interception] was on me, they made a great play on the ball that bounced up on [the second interception] ... that's part of the game ... They made good plays tonight, they're a good defense."
