China's special Middle East envoy has held phone talks with Israeli and Palestinian officials about the explosion of violence. Zhai Jun told Palestinian Deputy Foreign Minister Amal Jadou that China is deeply concerned about the security and humanitarian situation in Gaza. He said an immediate ceasefire is imperative. And he repeated the need for a resumption of peace talks on the basis of a two-state solution.
