China Media Group (CMG), together with mainstream media in many African countries, released China-Africa media action initiative about the Belt and Road initiative (BRI) on the occasion of the upcoming third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, CMG reported on Sunday.

The move has gained support from 50 African media organizations and institutions, including the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), it said, adding that Chinese and African media will play a significant role in deepening China-Africa friendship and enhancing people-to-people bonds through various forms such as cooperation in film-making, high-end interviews, and holding media-integrated activities.

Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and president of CMG, said in a video speech that 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of China's proposal of the BRI and 2023 also marks 10 years since Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed China's Africa policy with the principles of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith.

Over the past decade, China-Africa cooperation has shown vitality and strength and has built a high-level community with a shared future for the two sides, Shen said, adding that CMG is willing to work hand in hand with African media, learn from each other, tell the stories of friendly exchanges between the two sides and jointly demonstrate fruitful results of China-Africa cooperation under the BRI.

Grégoire Ndjaka, CEO of the AUB, said in a video speech that the AUB hopes to work with Chinese media to show the world a striving, developing and dynamic Africa. The media action initiative will help promote the joint production of high-quality content by the two sides and  promote high-quality development of African and Chinese media.

During the period of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, CMG will jointly launch a special program with African media to interpret the international practice of the BRI in promoting Chinese modernization.
