An estimated one million people have been displaced in the first seven days of the conflict in Gaza, AFP reported Sunday citing Director of Communications of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Juliette Touma.
The ongoing conflict began on October 7 when the Gaza-ruling Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) led a deadly surprise attack on Israel, taking some Israeli civilians and soldiers as hostages into Gaza. Since the conflict began, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes against targets in Gaza and bolstered troops at the border.
