At least two people were killed, and 125 others were injured after a magnitude-6.4 earthquake struck western Afghanistan on Sunday, as reported by Bakhtar News Agency, citing medical sources.

The epicenter was recorded at a depth of 10 km, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The earthquake, which shook Afghanistan's Herat province at 8:06 a.m. local time on Sunday, marked the region's third major quake in a week.

Two deadly quakes, each measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, followed by numerous aftershocks, shook western Afghanistan, with the epicenter in the Zindajan district of Herat province on October 7, leaving over 2,000 dead and thousands more injured.

Since then, Herat has experienced a series of tremors, prompting locals to stay and sleep in public spaces to escape possible devastating aftershocks.
