The number of people being held hostage in Gaza has been confirmed by Israel as 199, including the elderly, children and women, according to the Israeli military on Monday. They added that at least 291 Israeli soldiers were killed since the conflict broke out with Hamas on October 7.
"The efforts on the hostages are a top national priority," military spokesman Daniel Hagari also told a media briefing on Monday.
At least 1,400 people have been killed in Israel and 2,750 in retaliatory strikes on Gaza and 58 in the West Bank, according to death tolls from officials on both sides.
