Zheng, 20, won her first title at the Palermo Ladies Open in Italy, which was on WTA 250 level, against local Jasmine Paolini in July, becoming the Chinese mainland's 12th WTA singles champion.

The Chinese tennis prodigy, who currently ranks 24th in the world, reached a career-high of No. 19 after making it to her first tour-level claycourt quarterfinal at the Italian Open in May this year.

Her fruitful season also includes a last-8 finish in the U.S. Open as well as her first Asiad title at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

On Sunday, Zheng lost the first set due to multiple serving errors, but managed to break twice in the second set to level the match, before breaking first in the decider to take a 5-4 lead and winning several points in a row on serve to win the match.

Earlier on Sunday, Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand's Erin Routliffe won the women's doubles title over Japanese duo Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara.
