People gathered in front of the Rafah crossing at the Gaza-Egypt border on Monday, anxiously hoping the gate would open soon so they could leave the Gaza Strip. According to Egyptian news broadcaster Al-Qahera, Egypt has refused to permit stranded foreign nationals to leave Gaza through its Rafah border crossing unless humanitarian aid is allowed into the Palestinian enclave.

A local resident from Hamad city in Khan Yunis on the Gaza Strip told CGTN Stringer that he and his family have been coming to the border almost every day, hanging on to hopes that it's going to open and allow them to leave. Unfortunately for them, there has been development on that front. "All of Gaza is under attack right now, so I ask the people out there who do care to find us a safe haven or at least get us out of Gaza," he said.
