China has made a breakthrough in cooling capabilities of quantum systems, with a dilution refrigerator independently developed by a Chinese company rolling off the production line recently, according to Ecns.cn.

Dilution refrigerators, one of the key devices in superconducting quantum computers, can provide an ultra-low temperature environment of close to absolute zero.

In addition to the field of quantum computing, dilution refrigerators are widely used in cutting-edge technology fields such as condensed matter physics, materials science and deep space exploration.

The dilution refrigerator produced can access a temperature of 12 millikelvins (minus 273.138 degrees Celsius), with a cooling time of less than 40 hours and the capability of recovering to its original temperature within 24 hours, meeting the requirement for superconducting quantum computing, according to Zhang Junfeng, a researcher at the Anhui Quantum Computing Engineering Research Center.

The device has been developed by Origin Quantum Computing Technology Co. Ltd., a company based in Hefei City, east China's Anhui Province.

Origin Quantum, China's first quantum computing company, delivered its superconducting quantum computer in 2021, making China the third country in the world with the ability to deliver a complete quantum computer.
