There may be bigger Belt and Road projects than the China-Laos Railway that links Kunming in China's Yunnan province to the Laos capital Vientiane. But there can be few that are likely to have a more profound impact on a country than this railway will on Laos – a lower-income country with difficult terrain, poor roads and no coastline. Our correspondent Rian Maelzer travelled on the line to find out more.
