Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday met with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong in Beijing.

This is Thuong's first trip to China since becoming president in March. He is now leading a delegation on a four-day visit.

Faced with a turbulent international situation and arduous domestic development tasks, China and Vietnam should join hands to take the road of socialism, build a community of shared future with strategic significance and ensure that bilateral ties are always on the fast lane of mutual benefit and joint development, Xi said.

He urged both sides to adhere to the people-centered development philosophy, maintain strategic communication, learn from each other and promote the policies of national rejuvenation that suit their own national conditions.

The two sides should uphold the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, give full play to the advantages of geographic proximity and industrial complementarity, speed up synergy and cooperation between the Belt and Road Initiative and the "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle" strategy and strengthen cooperation in strategic areas such as connectivity and emerging areas like e-commerce, Xi noted.

China is willing to continue expanding imports of Vietnamese high-quality products, Xi said, adding that the two sides should also continue to forge a closer bond of friendship between the two peoples, especially the younger generation.

Thuong said that Vietnam has always regarded China's development as an opportunity and believes that China will make greater contributions to promoting world peace and development.

The Vietnamese side firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to intensify high-level strategic communication with China, he stressed.
