Food, drinking water and electricity are urgently needed in the southern Gaza Strip after many civilians were forced to move here from the north following an evacuation order by the Israeli military. Some 5,000 people poured into an emergency shelter set up in a school by a UN agency. Local relief agencies could only provide them with thin mattresses and blankets.
