Team China's Qin Haiyang won the men's 50m breaststroke gold with a time of 26.30 seconds and Zhang Yufei took the women's 50m butterfly silver at the Swimming World Cup in Budapest, Hungary on Saturday.

"I originally wanted to refresh the World Cup record today. It was so close. But I missed it by a little bit. It's a bit of a pity, but it's not important," Qin said after the final, referring to the new event record he set in the first leg of this year's World Cup series in Berlin with a time of 26.29 seconds.

Qin, 24, dominated all men's breaststroke gold medals from the previous two legs in Berlin and Athens, and stretched his winning streak to Budapest, clocking 57.82 seconds to win the men's 100m breaststroke a day ago.

Meanwhile, Zhang fell short behind Sarah Sjoestroem of Sweden in the women's 50m butterfly by 0.02 seconds to capture silver. Siobhan Bernadette Haughey from Hong Kong, China set a new World Cup women's 200m freestyle record with a stunning time of 1:54.08.

Also on Saturday, Australia's Kaylee McKeown set a new world record in women's 100m backstroke in 57.33 seconds, just a day after breaking the world record in the 50m backstroke, besting her own world mark of 57.45 set at the Australian Trials prior to the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021.

"To be honest, I wasn't expecting this at all tonight. I had a feeling I got close but never thought I'd go under in a million years," said the 22-year-old.

Hungarian pride soared when Boglarka Kapas claimed the women's 400m medley title with a time of 4:43.14. In the men's 1,500m freestyle, David Betlehem secured first place for host Hungary with a time of 14:58.04. Michael Andrew from the U.S. won the men's 50m backstroke with 24.64 seconds. Italy's Thomas Ceccon emerged as the champion with a time of 48.41 seconds in the men's 100m freestyle. Benedetta Pilato of Italy secured the top position in the women's 100m breaststroke in 1:05.83.
