China's 13th National Women's Congress has opened in Beijing. Leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the government, including Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi and Li Xi, attended the event to extend their congratulations. Nearly 1,800 delegates, and 90 specially invited delegates from Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions (SARs), attended the congress.
Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang delivered a speech on behalf of the CPC Central Committee. Ding praised women's contributions to poverty reduction, technological innovation and the fight against COVID-19. He also stressed the role of women's organizations in defending women's rights and deepening international exchanges. He called on the organizations to offer better services for women.
