Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida exchanged congratulatory messages on Monday on the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship Between China and Japan.
Li said that China is willing to work with Japan to relive the spirit of the treaty, stay the course in steering bilateral relations, and commit to building China-Japan relations suited to the requirements of the new era.
The treaty has established in legal form the general direction of peaceful coexistence and enduring friendship between China and Japan, emphasizing the opposition of hegemony, and became an important milestone in the development of bilateral ties, Li said.
In his message, Kishida said Japan and China have important responsibilities for the peace and prosperity of the region and the world, and have the potential for cooperation in a wide range of areas. It is important for both sides to work together to build a constructive and stable Japan-China relationship, he said.
Japan is willing to relive the spirit of the treaty with China and strive for further development of Japan-China relations, he added.
