The situation in Gaza is very serious and the spillover effects in the region and internationally are widening, as conflict along the Israeli-Lebanese and Israeli-Syrian borders spread, "making the outlook worrisome", a Chinese envoy said on Sunday.

The international community must jointly control the situation and prevent the situation from getting out of control, the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun told the press after attending the Cairo Summit for Peace in Egypt.

Zhai, who is visiting the Middle East, said he will visit regional countries including United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan to strengthen coordination aimed at promoting ceasefire and easing Palestine-Israel tensions.

China has provided and will continue to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to Palestine through the United Nations as well as bilateral channels to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he said.

China commends Egypt's efforts to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza and supports Egypt to open humanitarian corridor in Gaza, the envoy said.

At the next stage, China will continue to maintain close communication with the international community, including the Arab countries, and work together to prevent the expansion of the conflict, avoid an even more serious humanitarian catastrophe, and to bring an early resumption of the peace process in the Middle East, he added.
