As a flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the China-Europe freight train has helped creating jobs in the local logistics industry, benefiting German society in a tangible way.
Susanne Baumann: Germany, in overall, is not participating officially in the Belt and Road Initiative. But it's benefiting from it. They are running 60 trains per week from Chongqing to Duisburg. They handle 300,000 containers. And this is remarkable. And the people of Duisburg, they are benefiting very concretely from this Belt and Road Initiative in this respect.
There are Chinese companies, a lot of them, who are working in the logistics sector, operating in Duisburg, and this creates jobs. Chinese companies work within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. So I think there's a very concrete benefit of the Belt and Road Initiative for the German people and also for society.
