Argentine super star Lionel Messi says he is satisfied with Miami Inter's performance in his first season in North America's Major League Soccer (MLS).

"I am proud of everything the team accomplished this season," Messi wrote in an Instagram post. "With everyone's work and effort, we were able to win the Leagues Cup, achieving the first title in the history of Inter Miami CF, we reached the final of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and we were even fighting to get into the MLS playoffs practically until the last moment."

Having made 14 appearances for Miami since he joined in July, Messi scored 11 goals for the club, helping them win eight of those games. By contrast, when he wasn't playing, they only won one of seven games.

Though Miami failed to make the MLS playoffs, they won their first-ever title with Messi in the League Cup in August. His arrival also boosted the ticket and merchandise sales for the club.

"We are left with all the good things and above all with the desire to improve to be even more competitive next year. I would like to thank all the people at the club and the city of Miami for the support they always give us. I am sure that we will continue to live incredible moments together as has happened in recent months," Messi wrote on Instagram.

"I think everything has changed with him," Jorge Mas, managing owner of Miami, said in early October. "The MLS is another. Every time we play away from home, the stadiums are full." He also revealed that the team will visit Barcelona, where Messi grew into one of the greatest players in football history, and "have some kind of match."

Miami announced last week that they will come to China to play two friendly matches with Chinese Super League clubs Qingdao Hainiu and Chengdu Rongcheng on November 5 and 8 respectively.
