Dongting Lake in central China's Hunan Province is one of the main habitats for wintering migratory birds. Recently, as the temperature has started to drop, more than 30,000 wintering migratory birds from Siberia and northern China have arrived at the wetlands of Dongting Lake. More than 10 species, such as black storks, white cranes, grey cranes, herons, have been spotted so far. The total number of wintering migratory birds is expected to reach 300,000. The Administration of East Dongting Lake National Nature Reserve has taken measures to expand the habitat to make sure that the birds can overwinter safely.
