The Chinese mainland has slammed Lai Ching-te's false statement on the 1992 Consensus. The deputy head of the Taiwan region said that accepting the 1992 Consensus means giving up Taiwan's so-called sovereignty. The consensus was agreed between the mainland and Taiwan in 1992 that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China. Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, says the Taiwan people should be clear about Lai's deception.
ZHU FENGLIAN Spokesperson, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office "The Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair and is not an international affair at all. The '1992 Consensus' is the political basis for cross-Straits dialogue and consultation. Lai Ching-te is seeking so-called independence by force, and relying on foreign interference, but at the same time, talking about cross-Straits cooperation. His actions are completely deceptive."
