China is ready to maintain communication and coordination with Saudi Arabia to promote a comprehensive and fair resolution to the Palestine question, China's special envoy on Middle East said on Thursday.
Zhai Jun, special envoy of the Chinese government on Middle East issues, made the remarks during a meeting with Saudi Arabia's deputy foreign minister, Waleed Al-Khuraiji, in that country, in his latest talks with a flurry of regional diplomats on a tour to the region after the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis broke out on October 7.
Noting the heavy civilian casualties and a worsening humanitarian situation, Zhai urged efforts for an end to hostilities and de-escalation to create conditions for a political settlement.
Restarting the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks on the basis of the two-state solution is the only pragmatic path out of the vicious cycle of the conflict between the two sides, he said.
For his part, Al-Khuraiji said Saudi Arabia appreciates China's long-term fair and just stance on the Palestine question and is willing to work with China to promote peace and stability in the region at an early date.
