Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi is visiting the United States this week, at the invitation of the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The visit coincides with California Governor Gavin Newsom's tour in China. Douglas Paal, a distinguished fellow at the Asia Program of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said that China and the United States need more people-to-people exchange to counter prevailing political pressure. Shen Dingli, professor of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University, said that the United States is trying to create a more complex and nuanced approach to deal with China's technological rise, which is a new phenomenon. Sourabh Gupta, senior Asia-Pacific international relations policy specialist at the Institute for China-America Studies, said that the two countries are sticking within their lanes and what they need to do now is to deliver something fruitful.
