At this year's Wuhan Fashion Industry Exhibition, one brand stood out. "Wei Jie" was founded by 61-year-old Wei Lin, who until eight years ago was still a homemaker. Huang Jun has more.
One hundred "Wei Jie" designs went on show at the Fashion Industry Exhibition in Wuhan this month.
Among them were high-end dress collections, urban and leisure-wear, and a collection for parents and children.
WEI LIN Founder of "Wei Jie" "I started my business at the age of 53, because I made up my mind to do something I was fond of. Now I am almost 62 years old."
Wei Lin first focused on custom designs for middle-aged and older women.
Wei Lin Founder of "Wei Jie" "My body shape was not perfect enough. Seven years ago, I weighed 80 kilograms and was 1.62 meters tall, so I felt that I would not have suitable clothes anymore. However, I loved to wear beautiful clothes, so I decided to design them for myself."
Wei Lin didn't expect other people to like the clothes she designed for herself. She started with a small workshop the size of a bedroom.
Today she runs a three-storey studio covering 2,300 square meters, and employs 45 people. The studio houses 3,000 sample garments.
HAN BIN Model "I have known Wei Lin for over six years, and I have been walking the runway for her brand almost every year. During these years, I have witnessed Wei Lin's clothing business becoming more and more prosperous."
Wei Lin Founder of "Wei Jie" "I am really afraid of feeling regret as I get older and lie in bed, for I have achieved nothing, and do not have what I want. In fact, my dream is to wear my beautiful clothes and travel around the world."
This year, Wei Lin has traveled abroad three times to purchase fabrics in Italy, Switzerland, and France.
She believes the fabric is the soul of clothing, and the pattern, texture, and quality are crucial elements.
"Wei Jie" designs are known for the diversity and uniqueness of their fabrics.
The emergence of new industries and business formats has helped drive the live streaming industry in China, and Wei Lin is taking a chance on the digital economy.
