Creating miniature models of buildings can serve many purposes, including for appreciation. But another key purpose is a treasured practice that saw models being used by Chinese architects as a form of blueprint to construct wooden buildings, as veteran Chinese architect Ma Bingjian explained to CGTN host Julian Waghann. These little models have the interesting name of "Zha Xiaoyang," a term that refers to architects making miniature replicas to a certain scale – an essential step in ensuring the outcome of major construction and restoration projects that's still used in China today.
