Ethiopian, Kenyan runners win 2023 Beijing Marathon

The 2023 Beijing Marathon took place in the Chinese capital on Sunday morning. Ethiopia's Ulfata Deresa Geleta finished first in the men's group, clocking two hours, seven minutes and 41 seconds, with China's Chen Tianyu finishing seventh. In the women's group, Kenyan runners dominated the top three spots, led by Vibian Chepkirui who won the title in two hours, 21 minutes and 57 seconds. 

This year's event featured some 30,000 runners, who started from Tiananmen Square at 7:30 a.m. before racing toward the Olympic Park across four districts.

Also on Sunday, in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, Dong Guojian won the Xi'an Marathon men's title in two hours, 10 minutes and 45 seconds. The 36-year-old veteran remains hopeful of competing in the Paris Olympics next year.
