Artists performed with giant puppets on East West Street in Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, attracting many visitors to interact with them. The design of these giant wooden puppets was inspired by images from the "Classic of Mountains and Seas," an ancient Chinese classical text and a compilation of mythical geography and creatures.
As a landmark of the city, East West Street was originally a residential community for politicians and wealthy families during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Over time, the area attracted many residents to build their own houses there, expanding the area to several small lanes. After a series of renovations, East West Street's many ancient buildings were restored to retain the original architectural style of the Qing Dynasty. It reopened to the public in 2016.
