At least 13 people were killed and several others injured on Sunday evening after two trains collided in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh, according to a local media outlet.

The incident took place between Alamanda and Kantakapalle in the northern part of the state after one of the passenger trains overshot a signal, according to officials cited by news agency PTI.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X that he had spoken with the country's railway ministry and that he "extends condolences to the bereaved families and prays that the injured recover soon."
