Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group (CMG), called on efforts to carry out more in-depth cooperation with Greek cultural and media sectors and the public, while taking part in a Belt and Road dialogue in Athens. 

Noting on the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Shen said Greece is an important partner in the joint building of the BRI and it is China's good friend and partner in Europe. The prosperous development of the Belt and Road is indeed a process of exchange, communication, mutual learning, and mutual inspiration among different civilizations, he added. 

Former Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos, Greece's Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni, and Chinese Ambassador to Greece Xiao Junzheng also attended the event. 

Shen said CMG will assume the mission of a responsible media organization of the times telling stories of the Chinese and Greek civilizations and bridging people-to-people exchanges between the two peoples. 

The term "dialogue" carries profound significance, and China and Greece are practitioners in continuous state-to-state dialogue, former president Pavlopoulos said at the event. 

During his tenure as president of Greece, Pavlopoulos said he and President Xi Jinping had held several talks and reached many consensuses on promoting exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations and opposing the "clash of civilizations" theory. 

As two ancient civilizations, Pavlopoulos said the two countries have built bridges of communication via dialogue, set a model for mutual learning among civilizations and a model for a new type of international relations, and have become an important force in jointly safeguarding the value of world peace and justice. 

Other guests, including the Greek culture and sports minister, tourism minister, and Chinese ambassador also spoke at the event. 

On behalf of CMG, Shen signed a memorandum with the owner of Greece's first financial newspaper Naftemporiki, Dimitris Melissanidis on deepening cooperation in areas regarding international news reporting, finance and joint production of economic news. 

CMG also reached landing agreements with the Greek company platform Nova Telecommunications & Media S.M.S.A., reaching a consensus on enhancing the broadcasting of CGTN English and CGTN Documentary channels in Greece.
