An air detachment responsible for the search and rescue recovery mission for China's Shenzhou-16 crew, which is set to return on Tuesday, has been fully prepared for their return, China Media Group (CMG) reported on Monday.

The detachment will deploy five helicopters for the mission, including one for command, one for communication, one for medical supervision and rescue, and two for medical rescue.

Facilitated by a search guidance system, the team is able to obtain key information such as the position and distance of the Shenzhou-16 spacecraft in real time with an improved accuracy.

During the rehearsal, the air detachment quickly maneuvered and accurately landed around the return capsule after receiving the instruction.

The Shenzhou-16 crew, after five months in space, will land in the Dongfeng Landing Site located in the Gobi Desert in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

"We have mainly conducted three phases of rehearsals after arriving here," Zhang Lei, a member of the air search and rescue detachment, told CMG.

The first phase was self-training, during which the detachment also carried out detailed investigation and calibration of the terrain and tall obstacles in the whole landing site, said Zhang, adding that they conducted collaborative training with other search and rescue teams in the second phase and eventually two final drills.

Besides the air detachment, more than 10 search and rescue groups and nearly 100 vehicles with different functions will also join the task.

This will be the fifth mission the landing site has conducted to recover a manned spacecraft and the crew, and the site has been fully prepared.
