The organizers of the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum say they are providing a platform to amplify the voice of developing countries in the international community. CGTN's Zhao Yunfei explains why the interests of developing nations matter to global security.
ZHAO YUNFEI Beijing "I am at the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum. The three-day event has gathered delegations from more than 100 countries and international organizations. China's Defense Ministry says this is not only the largest Beijing Xiangshan Forum by far, but also there is a big increase in guests from developing countries."
What makes this security dialogue in China attract so many people from developing countries? Because China cares about the interests of developing countries.
OPPAH MUCHINGURI Zimbabwe Minister of Defence "Their own national interests are opposed to the issue of hegemony, the issue of unilateralism, being told by another country through dictatorship. Because they have national interests, their foreign policy targets other countries."
ZHAO YUNFEI Beijing "China is against actions that protect security at a cost to others. At this auditorium, China's Central Military Commission's Vice Chairman Zhang Youxia delivered a keynote speech, saying that no country should impose its own will on others, and put its own benefits above that of others. Facing the rising cold war and camp confrontation mentalities, it is crucial to uphold the concepts of multilateralism and win-win."
EDUARDO DIEZ Director, International Relations Department, Belgrano University "Sometimes, you think that global order and security only depend on big powers. But sometimes, when the big powers don't play around and don't have a good connection, small and medium countries can play a role."
ARSENI SIVITSKI Director, Center for Strategic and Foreign Policy Studies "Despite our sizes, all countries participating in the discussions are equal."
ZHAO YUNFEI Beijing "The Beijing Xiangshan Forum provides such opportunities. Four plenary sessions and eight simultaneous special sessions have been arranged, covering global and regional affairs. The dialogues are between high-level leaders and between young officers, giving all participants chances to express ideas. The goal is clear, the voice of the developing countries cannot be ignored."
LI SHUYIN Researcher, PLA Academy of Military Sciences "Peace and security issues are sometimes caused by a lack of development. If we can pay attention to the security problems of developing countries, it may be of great significance in creating a world with common security and lasting peace."
ZHAO YUNFEI Beijing "Developing countries, especially some war-torn states, are eagerly looking for peace and development. This year's Forum has invited conflicting parties, from Russia and Ukraine, from Israel, Arab nations, and the United States and that can demonstrate that China attaches importance to the legitimate concerns of all countries. Although problems cannot be solved all at once, at least it's a dialogue, not a war. Zhao Yunfei , CGTN, Beijing."
